If your child is about to start learning the Quran, you will hear the name Noorani Qaida very often. Here is a simple guide to what it is, why it matters, and how your child can learn it online.

What Is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is a beginner’s booklet that teaches how to read Arabic step by step, so that a student can later read the Quran correctly. It is used by Quran teachers all over the world and is suitable for children and adults.

What Does Noorani Qaida Teach?

  1. Arabic letters and their correct sounds (makharij).
  2. Joined letters – how letters change shape when connected.
  3. Harakat – short vowels: fathah, kasrah and dammah.
  4. Tanween – double vowel signs.
  5. Long vowels (madd letters) and sukoon.
  6. Shaddah and basic Tajweed rules.
  7. Practice with words and short phrases from the Quran.

Why Kids Should Learn Qaida First

Children who skip Qaida often memorize sounds without being able to read on their own, and pronunciation mistakes become habits. A solid Qaida foundation means your child can open any page of the Quran and read it with confidence.

What Age Should a Child Start?

Most children start Noorani Qaida between ages 4 and 6. If a child can recognise shapes and sit for 15 to 20 minutes, they are usually ready. Older children and adults can start at any time.

How Long Does Noorani Qaida Take?

With 3 to 5 short classes a week, most children finish Noorani Qaida in about 3 to 6 months. Adults often finish faster, in about 2 to 4 months. Regular practice at home makes a big difference.
